360 "Beyond the Screen"
نویسنده
چکیده
At the University of Applied Sciences Mainz, Prof. Michael Orthwein initiated in 2008, a consecutive sequence of courses under the common name: "Beyond the Screen" which are being offered within the Time-Based Media degree program. In this series of project-based courses new strategies and new approaches towards visualisation of content are being developed aiming at experimental and applied visual content-scenarios for museums while focusing on possible levels of immersion within Stereo-Surround, Virtual and Augmented-Reality environments. The development and implementation of a mobile, stereoscopic surround-projection-unit during the “Mainz-Science City” initiative in 2011 allowed the students to design, develop, test and present various visualisation scenarios in cooperation with the Museums in Mainz.

Go beyond the screen: the evolution and design pressures of viewership, from Hollywood to Silicon Valley
This paper investigates the possible disappearance of the screen with the evolution and design pressures of viewership in mind. It begins with the complexities of the screen. This includes the aspect ratio wars of cinema’s widescreen and the square television standard which changed in favour of the cinematic. This leads onto the constraints and imposed aspects formed from the additional orienta...
متن کاملEvaluation of desktop interface displays for 360-degree video
A 360-degree video becomes necessary in applications ranging from surveillance to virtual reality. This thesis focuses on developing an interface for a system such as mobile surveillance that integrates 360-degree video feeds for remote navigation and observation in unfamiliar environments. An experiment evaluated the effectiveness of three 360-degree view user interfaces to identify the necess...

As part of the final project for this course, I used CRAIVE (Collaborative-Research Augmented Immersive Virtual Environment Laboratory) space to create an interactive immersive visualizations based on human motion inside the space. As shown in Figure 1, CRAIVE lab has a 360 degree screen equipped with 8 projectors along with 6 overhead cameras used for tracking. The floor space enclosed within ...
متن کاملBeyond: collapsible tools and gestures for computational design Citation
Since the invention of the personal computer, digital media has remained separate from the physical world, blocked by a rigid screen. In this paper, we present Beyond, an interface for 3-D design where users can directly manipulate digital media with physically retractable tools and natural hand gestures. When pushed onto the screen, these tools physically collapse and project themselves onto t...
متن کاملA Comparison of the effectiveness of Mammographic Film-Screen and Standard Film-Screen in the Detection of Small Bone Fractures
The use of mammography film-screen is limited in general radiography. The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of mammographic film-screen and standard film-screen systems in the detection of small bone fractures. Radiographs were taken from patients' extremities and neck areas using mammography film-screen and standard film-screen (n=57 each). Fourteen other radiographs were ...
